What should I do if my Glacier Bay Made in Mexico Dual Flush Toilet 215-583 is having a flushing performance issue?

Step 1: Verify if the push button rod is adjusted to the correct height.

When the push button with the tank lid is placed back into the tank, the push button rods should merely touch the gray/blue panel at the top of the dual flush valve, without initiating the flushing cycle or without water leaking into the bowl. At the correct height, the tip of the flush button rods is slightly touching the corresponding panel as per per image below shown.

To install the push button onto the tank lid:
  • Place the flush button assembly into the hole on the tank lid so the single drop button and the blue push button rod will align with the blue panel of the flush valve (half flush) and the double drop button and the gray push button rod will align with the gray panel of the flush valve (full flush).
  • Secure the flush button assembly in the tank lid by hand and tighten the lock nut.
  • The rubber tip at the bottom of the push button rods should be slightly touching to the blue/gray panel of the flush valve.
To increase the push button rods length, turn the rod lock nut counter-clockwise to loosen, then rotate the push button rod counter-clockwise to increase the exposed length. When the appropriate length is achieved, turn the rod locknut clockwise, while holding the push rod, until it is tightened.

Step 2:  Verify if the refill tube is not obstructing the push button rod

Ensure the flush valve is aligned properly and the refill tube is not obstructing the push button rod. When obstructed, it impacts on the rods movement and on the flush volume per specification when discharged.

Additional Related Troubleshooting:

Verify if the water is filled to the water line

Remove the tank lid and check that the tank water is filled up to the waterline level. The waterline is written on the overflow tube of the flush valve.
If the water at rest is below the waterline, the amount of water that gets pushed to the bowl for a clean flush will be less optimal.
If the water at rest is higher than the waterline, the amount of water may overflow into the overflow tube and trigger the fill valve to constantly refill, with water constantly running.

Verify the flush valve

Some debris may get in the way and interfere with the dual flush valve washer. To resolve this, follow the steps below.
  • Shut off the water source and flush the toilet

  • Remove the refill tube from the flush valve. Place hand over top of flush valve, rotate counter-clockwise and pull up gently

  • Once removed, check the opening at the bottom of the tank, and clear any/all debris and check the seal for bubbles or warping

  • Once clear, place the dual flush valve back in the housing and align the blue button on the left side, and the gray button on the right side. Rotate clockwise until it clicks back into place

  • If the seal is bubbled or warped, the complete flush valve will need to be replaced.
