The tub spout diverter is a knob located at the top of the tub spout.
** Please note: If the problem occurs only after you have done any plumbing work in your home, please consult a plumber first. The issue may not be related to the diverter **
If the water comes out of both the spout and showerhead at the same time, please follow the following steps to determine if the problem is caused by the diverter.
- If water comes out at both ends when you turn on the water, remove the tub spout.
- If the water still comes out on both ends, the issue is not related to the diverter. Please consult with a plumber to verify your piping connection.
- If the water comes out of the tub spout opening only, please verify the piping length of the spout opening. Your piping may be longer than the required maximum length and can be obstructing the diverter.
- If the water comes out of the tub spout opening only and the piping length is within the required length, the diverter on the tub spout malfunctions and the tub spout assembly will need to be replaced.
- If water comes out at both ends only when you pull up the tub spout knob, the diverter on the tub spout malfunctions, and the tub spout assembly will need to be replaced.
If water does not divert to the showerhead after you pull up the tub spout knob, the diverter on the tub spout malfunctions and the tub spout assembly will need to be replaced.
If the tub spout knob is broken, the tub spout assembly will need to be replaced.
