How do I replace the spout o-rings on a single handle kitchen faucet?
Here are the steps on how to replace the O-rings
Please note that the images are for reference only. The product shown in this article may differ from yours, but the information below is still relevant.
- Shut off the hot and cold water supply lines located under the sink.
- Loosen the handle set screw part #2 (after pulling out the rubber index button), counter-clockwise using a hex wrench (1/8" or 2.5mm head).
- Pull up the handle part #1. If it is still difficult to remove, loosen the set screw more.
- Unscrew the handle trim cap (part #3) counter-clockwise by hand.
- Unscrew the brass adjusting ring (part # 4) counter-clockwise by applying an adjustable wrench to the two flat slots.
- Unscrew the sleeve (part #5) counter-clockwise by hand and pull it up.
- Pull out the cartridge (part # 6). If it does not pull out easily, leave it to be pulled out with the spout.
- Move the spout (part #8) by rotating left to right while pulling in an upward direction. The spout is a compression fitting piece and may need a little force to pull off.
- Then, you will find the faucet body exposed with 2 groves (each one has one O-ring - part # 9). Pull them out or cut them. Clean any debris that may be on the valve before replacing the O-rings. Install the new O-rings in the same grooves where the old O-rings were located.
Try using a little plumber's grease or vegetable oil around the O-rings to make an easy connection when pushing the main spout back into position.
- Re-install all the parts back into the unit ( spout, sleeve, brass adjusting ring, handle trim cap, handle screw and index button).
