How Do I Install A Ceramic Disc Cartridge For A Single Handle Kitchen Faucet?

This article will explain how to install a ceramic disc cartridge for a single-handle faucet.

Please note that the images are for reference only. The product shown in this article may differ from yours, but the information below is still relevant.

To install a ceramic disc cartridge, you must:

  1. Remove the old cartridge.
  2. Install the new cartridge.
  3. Test for leaks.

Please Note: Before doing any work on your faucet, ensure you have shut off the water supply for the faucet.

Once the water is turned off, you are ready to begin.

Step 1 - Remove the old cartridge

  • After you have removed the handle, remove the trim cap by unscrewing it counter-clockwise. If the trim cap is difficult to remove, wrap a rubber glove around it for a better grip.

  • Re-install the lock nut with a pair of pliers or an adjustable wrench to grip the flat slots. To avoid over-tightening the lock nut, hand tighten the lock nut clockwise first, then with a pair of pliers or adjustable wrench, rotate a quarter turn further. Overall 10-14 lbs of torque are required to properly install the lock nut.

Step 3 - Test for leaks

  • Once all of the parts are re-installed, turn on the faucet water supply and turn the faucet on. If you notice that the water is leaking from the ceramic disc cartridge, rotate the lock nut another quarter turn with a pair of pliers to tighten it further and test once again.
