This article will explain how to replace an integrated diverter for a Roman tub faucet.
To replace the diverter, you must:
- Remove the old diverter
- Install the new diverter
- Re-install the spout and test for leaks
Please Note: Before doing any work on your faucet, please shut off the water supply for the faucet.
Once the water is turned off, you are ready to begin.
Step 1 - Remove the old diverter
- Remove the spout.
- Once the spout has been removed, the spout adapter should be visible. To remove the spout adapter, use a pair of adjustable plyers. Using the pliers, turn counter-clockwise until the spout adapter is removed.
- Once the spout adapter has been removed, the top of the diverter should be visible. Locate the two holes at the top of the diverter and insert the diverter removal tool into the two holes. To do so, pinch the diverter tool together and insert the tool into the diverter. Make sure that both of the pins on the diverter removal tool slide into the corresponding holes. Pull up until the diverter is completely removed from the faucet body.
Step 2 - Install the new diverter
- To install the new diverter, slide it into the spout body and push it down until it stops.
- Once the diverter has been installed, re-install the spout adapter. Re-install the spout adapter with a pair of adjustable pliers. To avoid over-tightening the spout adapter, hand tighten the spout adapter, and then use the adjustable pliers to apply a quarter turn. Approximately 10-14 lbs of torque are required to properly install the spout adapter.
Step 3 - Re-install the spout and test for leaks.
- Re-install the spout. Once the spout is installed, turn the faucet on and let the water run for 10 minutes. Watch closely for any leaks.
