This article will explain how to install a ceramic disc cartridge on a 2-handle, wall-mount kitchen faucet.
Please note that pot fillers use two cartridges. The instructions apply to both cartridges.
Also, the images are for reference only. The product shown in this article may differ from yours, but the information below is still relevant.
To change the cartridge, you will need to:
- Remove the old cartridge
- Install the new cartridge
- Test for leaks
Please Note: Before doing any work on your faucet, please shut off the water supply for the faucet.
Once the water is turned off, you are ready to begin.
Step 1 – Remove the old cartridge
a. The cartridge is threaded into the faucet body. After you've removed the handle, remove the cartridge by using adjustable pliers to unscrew the cartridge counter-clockwise.
b. Holding the stem of the cartridge, pull up until the faucet is completely removed from the faucet body.
Step 2 – Install the new cartridge
a. To install the new cartridge, sit the cartridge into the faucet body and turn clockwise to thread it in.
b. Re-install the cartridge with a pair of adjustable pliers. To avoid over-tightening the cartridge, hand tighten the cartridge, and then use the adjustable pliers to apply a quarter turn. Approximately 10-14 lbs of torque are required to properly install the cartridge.
Step 3 – Test for leaks
a. Once all of the parts are re-installed, turn on the water supply for the faucet and turn the faucet on and off. If you notice that water is leaking from the ceramic disc cartridge, tighten the cartridge and test again.
